Rison Recorder/Treasurer Rhonda Hopson has resigned her positions and said in a letter to the City Council that she had been harassed and put under pressure by the mayor and water department clerk.

In addition to serving as recorder/treasurer, she was also serving as office/business manager for the City of Rison.

Hopson was appointed Recorder/Treasurer in September 2024 following the death of Rhonda Thompson who had died in August.

Recorder/Treasurer is an elected position while office/business manager is a job within city government.

Rison’s Mayor told the Cleveland County Herald that under existing state law, the council cannot appoint anyone to the position until the next council meeting. The mayor offered no comments on the allegations by Hopson.
