A contract between the Rison City Council and the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office to provide police protection for the city was approved by the Rison City Council at a recent meeting.

According to the Cleveland County Herald, the new contract will cost Rison about $140,000 next year, an increase of about $600 from the existing contract.

The contract delegates two deputies to help handle law enforcement in the city and told the council the contract benefits both the city and county.

In other business, Rison Utilities Director Joe Freyer reported on work that is underway at the wastewater treatment plant on U.S. 79 as well as new water lines being put down in the city.
