PINE BLUFF, ARK. — A Pine Bluff man was injured in a Wednesday night shooting in the 2000 block of West 29th Avenue.
According to the Pine Bluff Police Department’s Detective Office, officers responded to the incident at around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 6, and found the victim, 34-year-old Darren Brock, near the intersection of West 28th Avenue and Cedar Street.
Brock said he had been shot by a man, who was later identified as 42-year-old Derrick Bryant, during a dispute outside a residence near the Stitch & Clean on West 30th Avenue.
Officers observed multiple puncture wounds on Brock consistent with birdshot injuries.
Brock said the suspect used a sawed-off shotgun during the incident.
During the investigation, officers discovered an unloaded 9mm handgun in Brock’s waistband. He initially denied being armed but later claimed he had taken the weapon from Bryant during a struggle, according to detectives.
A records check revealed Brock is a convicted felon, and he was subsequently charged with Possession of a Firearm by Certain Persons.
Officers and detectives located Bryant at a nearby residence and arrested him without incident. He has been charged with Battery in the First Degree in connection with the shooting.
Both men were transported for further investigation.
Brock received medical treatment at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
Crime scene technicians processed the scene and collected evidence, including the recovered handgun.
