The Pine Bluff School District has announced that it will move forward with an earlier election for Zone 5 of its school board, following community concerns about the timing of the next vote.

In a statement released Friday, district officials said the Pine Bluff School Board initially adopted its election plan in July under Act 503 of 2025, a state law enacted in April that significantly reformed school board election procedures across Arkansas.

Since adopting that plan, the district said it became aware of questions regarding the timing of Zone 5’s next election, which had previously been scheduled for 2028.

Although district officials believe the original plan was “legally defensible given ambiguities in the statute,” the board has directed the Jefferson County Clerk to open Zone 5 for candidate filing ahead of the March 2026 election.

District leaders said the decision was made to maintain transparency and avoid prolonged disputes over election scheduling.

“The District believes this proactive step will eliminate distractions and allow full focus on what matters most — educating the students of Pine Bluff School District,” the release stated.
