PINE BLUFF, Ark. — The Pine Bluff Police Department will increase traffic enforcement efforts from July 10 through July 31 as part of a national campaign aimed at reducing speeding-related crashes.
PBPD is partnering with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for the “Speeding Slows You Down” high-visibility enforcement campaign.
Police said officers will focus on areas where speeding complaints and traffic crashes are most common. Enforcement efforts will include neighborhood streets, school zones, major thoroughfares and other high-traffic areas across Pine Bluff.
According to federal traffic safety data provided by PBPD, 11,288 people were killed in speeding-related crashes nationwide in 2024, accounting for 29% of all traffic fatalities. Young drivers were among those at increased risk.
“Every mile per hour over the posted speed limit reduces your ability to react, increases stopping distance, and makes crashes more severe,” PBPD Public Information Officer Capt. DeShawn Bennett said.
The department is reminding drivers that speeding can lead to citations and other legal consequences while also increasing the risk of serious injuries and fatal crashes.
PBPD is asking motorists to obey posted speed limits, wear seat belts, avoid distractions and adjust their speed for roadway and weather conditions during the campaign and throughout the year.
