The Pine Bluff Police Department’s Annual Fishing Derby will cast off at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Martin Luther King Park pond, offering a morning of fun, food, and community connection.
The free event is open to children ages 15 and under as well as senior citizens, and is hosted in partnership with Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church.
Participants can have their catches cleaned and cooked on-site, while those not fond of fish can enjoy chicken, popcorn, and snow cones. A pie-eating contest is also planned, and senior attendees will receive complimentary goodie bags. The event will run until noon.
Pine Bluff Police Department Public Information Specialist John Worthen spoke with Deltaplex News about what citizens can expect on Saturday.
Worthen said officers will secure the pond after stocking it to prevent early fishing. While fishing is limited to eligible age groups, all community members are welcome to attend and enjoy the festivities.
