In response to dangerously cold temperatures, the City of Pine Bluff has announced the opening of a warming center to help protect vulnerable residents during the extreme weather.
City officials said the warming center will operate in partnership with DePaul USA and will be located at the Opportunity House, also known as the Old First Ward School, at 1305 E. Sixth Ave.
The center is scheduled to open Monday, Dec. 29, and will operate nightly from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. through Wednesday morning, according to the city.
The warming center will provide a heated and secure indoor space, with sleeping accommodations available on a first-come, first-served basis, along with essential amenities for those seeking shelter from the cold.
City officials are encouraging residents to share the information with anyone who may need access to the warming center’s services.
The city is also seeking assistance from community organizations, faith-based groups and volunteers to support the effort. Those interested in contributing are asked to contact Mar’Tavius Proctor at (870) 209-5827 or by email at [email protected].
Officials said the city will continue to monitor weather conditions and provide updates if adjustments to the plan are needed.
