Authorities in Pine Bluff have launched a criminal investigation following the tragic death of a 2-month-old infant on Saturday afternoon.
At approximately 2:34 p.m. on June 14, 2025, Pine Bluff Police Officers responded to the Sun Bridge Inn, located at 4600 Dollarway Road, after receiving a report of an unresponsive infant. When officers arrived on scene, they located the child and immediately called for emergency medical assistance.
The infant was transported by ambulance to Jefferson Regional Medical Center, but despite efforts by medical staff, the child was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Medical personnel reported observing severe bruising and clear signs of malnourishment on the infant’s body, prompting the involvement of the Pine Bluff Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID). Detectives conducted interviews and gathered evidence at the scene, ultimately leading them to suspect the child’s mother.
Following the investigation, 24-year-old Lacrystal Matthews was arrested and charged with First-Degree Murder in connection with the infant’s death. She has been booked into the W.C. “Dub” Brassell Adult Detention Center.
Police have stated that this remains an active and ongoing investigation. Authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
