Pine Bluff Man Charged with Forgery and Theft After Cashing Stolen Business Checks

A $2,500 bond was set Wednesday for a Pine Bluff man accused of forging and cashing checks from a business in October.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Robert Shorter Jr., 23, with two counts of forgery and two counts of theft by receiving.

During the court hearing, Deputy Prosecutor Ty Spradlin said on Oct. 28, the owner of Ocean’s Fish and Chicken on East Harding Avenue reported that an employee had taken business checks and had written them to various businesses without being authorized to do so. The checks had been written for a total of $5,072.20.

On Monday police received information that Shorter was in the area of 16th Avenue and Hazel Street and officers located him walking and took him into custody.

Shorter was told to come back to court Dec. 22.
