Pine Bluff City Attorney Althea Hadden-Scott Seeks Fifth Term

Pine Bluff City Attorney Althea Hadden-Scott has announced her candidacy for a fifth term in office.

Hadden-Scott leads the city attorney’s office, which prosecutes cases in Pine Bluff District Court and the Jefferson County Circuit Court, Juvenile Division. Her responsibilities include advising city officials, department heads, and residents on a wide range of legal matters.

As the city’s chief legal counsel, Hadden-Scott frequently interprets local ordinances, regulations, and state and federal laws. “I take pride in rendering opinions that will equip those who are charged with enforcing the law with the legal standing to confidently execute the law or pursue a course of action without exposing the city to litigation,” she said in a news release. “Occasionally, an opinion will prove to be controversial, but I strive to ensure my office vets the issue objectively and impartially.”

First elected in 2010, Hadden-Scott previously worked in private practice for nine years, served as an attorney ad litem for the Department of Human Services, sat as a special judge in felony, misdemeanor, juvenile, and domestic cases, and served as a deputy prosecutor for two years. She is also admitted to practice in federal court.

A U.S. Army veteran who served three years on active duty and earned an Army Commendation Medal, Hadden-Scott was admitted to the Arkansas Bar in 1999 after earning her Juris Doctor from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

Hadden-Scott is active in the legal and local community as a member of the Jefferson County Bar Association, Arkansas Bar Association, and Arkansas City Attorney’s Association. She serves on the board of the Child Advocacy Center of Southeast Arkansas, is a deaconess at New Salem Missionary Baptist Church, a Past Worthy Matron of ADAH Chapter 424 of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the NAACP.

She and her husband, Carl Scott Sr., are the parents of six children: Brandon, Chylon, Anthony Jr., Gregory, Tyson, and Marie.
