The City of Pine Bluff has been awarded a $500,000 grant from the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) for the Delta Rhythm & Bayous (DRB) Cultural District Pedestrian Trail initiative through the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP).
The funds will be used to construct sidewalks around the epicenter of the Cultural District, improving connectivity with previously funded TAP sidewalk projects and expanding pedestrian access in the area.
“The development of this pedestrian trail will not only enhance the Cultural District but also promote greater accessibility and safety for our residents and visitors,” said Pine Bluff Mayor Vivian Flowers.
The Transportation Alternatives Program, reauthorized under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), supports projects that provide safe, accessible, and sustainable transportation options for pedestrians, cyclists, and other non-motorized users. The program operates as a reimbursable grant, offering 80% federal funding with a 20% local match from eligible applicants.
TAP funding can be used for a wide range of infrastructure improvements, including sidewalks, bike paths, pedestrian and bicycle signals, lighting, and other safety-related enhancements.
