Although the Opportunity House is currently open for only a limited number of hours to provide services to the homeless population, that will soon change.

Opportunity House Case Worker Melissa Brock joined the United Way’s Jason Duren on the Oldies 1013 Morning Show to talk about that change.

She said the initial plan is to provide space for 12 to 15 people but long-range plans call for that number to increase to 32.

Morning Show host Greg Horne asked Duren if there is a big need for not only a 24-hour shelter, but one that can handle that many people.

Horne also noted that by going to 24-hours a day, the financial costs are going to increase and he asked Brock how Opportunity House is funded.

Opportunity House is located in the former First Ward School building  that is owned by the city.
