The Black Pilots of America will return to Pine Bluff this weekend as Operation Skyhook returns to Grider Field for its 28th annual event.
Ken Johnson, who has helped bring the event to Pine Bluff and serves on the Aviation Commission, discussed the annual gathering during a recent radio interview, saying pilots from around the country continue traveling to Pine Bluff while helping introduce young people and families to aviation.
The event includes pilot proficiency competitions and opportunities for children to experience aviation firsthand through introductory airplane rides.
Johnson said one of the biggest goals of Operation Skyhook is exposing children to aviation and creating opportunities that can continue long after their first experience in an aircraft.
The event begins Friday morning with a welcome ceremony and continues throughout the weekend. Airplane rides for children will take place after daily competition events conclude.
Community members planning to attend are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, as seating may be limited.
