The TOPPS summer camp began on June 8 and will conclude on July 31 after serving up to 96 students throughout the summer.

Organizers introduced a new hands-on learning experience with Drones during this year’s camp, aimed at preparing students for opportunities beyond the classroom. Annette Dove, founder of TOPPS, shared more about the initiative, as well as mentioning the price of enrollment.

Organizers balanced the camp’s academic instruction with a wide range of enrichment opportunities, giving students the chance to learn new skills, explore new places and participate in activities outside of a traditional classroom setting.

Organizers also emphasized enrichment throughout the summer, with support from several community organizations helping expand the camp’s offerings and provide additional resources for campers, including mental health initiatives.

Dove shared more about what campers experienced throughout the summer.

The camp is open to children entering kindergarten through age 15, although participants must have prior school experience and generally be at least six years old.

Organizers say the age requirement helps ensure students are prepared for group activities, travel and following instructions during field trips.

The summer will conclude with a closing program on July 30 at 2 p.m. inside Coleman’s Gym.

The public is invited to attend as students showcase what they’ve learned through dance performances, a drill team presentation and individual performances by campers who choose to participate.

In addition to the summer camp, TOPPS has continued its non-congregate summer feeding program.

Families can pick up five meals per child each week by providing identification and the number of children in the household.

The summer meal distribution ends July 31 after serving more than 140 families, with room to assist additional households before the program concludes.
