A Redfield man was killed and three other people, including one from Rison were injured in a three-vehicle accident in Phillips County Friday.
According to a preliminary report from the Arkansas State Police, Austin Maasdam, 22, was southbound on Sebastian Street in Helena-West Helena when he failed to stop at a red light at the intersection of Sebastian Street and Plaza Avenue. The 2005 Nissan Altima he was driving struck a Cadllac Escalade driven by Devin Williams, 28, of West Helena, then struck a 2014 Toyota Sequoia Driven by Malak Asad, 36, also of West Helena.
A passenger in Maasdam’s vehicle, Kathleen McHan, 32, of Rison was injured as were Williams and Asad,and were taken to Helena Regional Hospital for treatment.
The accident was reported at 10:23 a.m. and the death was the 32nd on the state’s highways so far this year.
