Construction of the new Pine Bluff High School is moving forward, and major features of the campus are beginning to take shape.

On Tuesday, Deltaplex Radio’s Greg Horne toured the site with Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Barbaree, architect Clayton Vaden, and Shawn Carroll of East Harding Construction.

One highlight of the project is the new practice gymnasium, which will also serve as a tornado safe room capable of withstanding winds from an EF-5 tornado. Vaden explained the importance of the safe room.

Barbaree noted that it will be open to the community during tornado warnings.

In addition to the practice facility, a second gymnasium will be built for Pine Bluff High School basketball games. With a seating capacity of 2,200, it will be large enough to host postseason tournaments.

The campus will also feature a 900-seat auditorium, which Vaden described as a centerpiece for school and community events.

Deltaplex News will share more on Wednesday, including Dr. Barbaree’s update on the academic programs that will be offered at the new Pine Bluff High School.
