Several counties across the Deltaplex, including Jefferson County, are now under burn bans after county judges signed orders Monday amid ongoing dry conditions.
Bradley, Cleveland, Dallas, Drew, Grant, Jefferson, and Lincoln counties have all implemented burn bans, prohibiting outdoor burning until further notice.
A burn ban restricts activities such as burning yard debris, trash, brush piles and other open flames outdoors. The measure is typically enacted during periods of dry weather, low humidity and elevated fire risk to help prevent wildfires.
Under Arkansas law, county judges have the authority to issue burn bans when conditions create a significant risk for uncontrolled fires. Violating a burn ban can result in fines and potential criminal charges.
Officials are urging residents to comply with the restrictions and use caution, noting that even small fires can quickly spread under current conditions.
The bans will remain in effect until conditions improve and county officials determine it is safe to lift the restrictions.
