Monticello Schools Lockdown Lifted After Security Threat

The Monticello School District (MSD) confirmed Wednesday that a precautionary lockdown has been lifted and all students and staff are safe following a security threat in the area earlier in the day.

According to school officials, the district enacted its safety protocols after receiving information about a potential threat near school campuses. Authorities later confirmed the individual involved was taken into police custody.

District leaders commended students and staff for their calm and swift response during the lockdown.

“The safety of our students is always our top priority,” the district said in a statement. “We want to thank the Monticello Police Department for their quick response and our community for their patience and support.”

MSD also expressed gratitude to Mayor Jason Akers and the Monticello Police Department for their professionalism and rapid response to the incident.

No injuries were reported, and classes have since resumed as normal.
