A Monticello police officer was injured Wednesday morning after being struck by an oncoming vehicle while directing traffic on Highway 278 West.
According to Monticello Police Chief Carlos Garcia, officers were dispatched around 6 a.m. to assist with traffic control after a Dollar General truck broke down, blocking the eastbound lane. While officers worked to manage the flow of vehicles, one officer was hit by a passing motorist.
The injured officer was transported to Jefferson Regional Hospital for treatment. The Arkansas State Police investigated the incident.
No additional details about the officer’s condition or the driver involved were immediately released.
