A new ordinance that would allow the Monticello Water Department to refund customers’ deposits for prompt payments has been approved.
According to the Advance Monticellonian newspaper, the Monticello City Council adopted that ordinance following a third reading earlier this week.
If customers pay their bill on time for 12 consecutive months, the water company will be authorized to offer a refund as a credit on the bill.
The legislation did not have an emergency clause and will take effect later this year.
Also at the meeting, resolutions accepting grant funding for the Monticello airport to build a new hanger were approved, as was a resolution to purchase a drone for the police department.
