Efforts are underway to reestablish an American Legion presence in Cleveland County, with meetings scheduled later this month for interested veterans and their families.

The Cleveland County Veterans Affairs Office will host meetings April 18 and April 25 at 10 a.m. at the Hall-Morgan Post, located at 404 Sycamore St. in Rison.

Organizers say the meetings are open to all honorably discharged veterans interested in joining and helping restart an American Legion Post in the county.

In addition to veterans, family members may also participate through affiliated groups. The Women’s Auxiliary is open to female spouses, mothers, daughters, sisters and grandmothers of eligible veterans. The Sons of the American Legion includes male descendants such as sons, grandsons, stepsons and adopted sons of honorably discharged veterans.

Officials said the goal is to rebuild a local post that can support veterans and provide community service opportunities in Cleveland County.
