Social media influencer and community activist Mark Cannon announced his candidacy for Jefferson County Sheriff on Thursday, leading to a large response on social media when the announcement was made.
Cannon, who regularly addresses community issues on social media, spoke with Deltaplex News to share why he decided to run for Sheriff.
There have been a number of injuries and deaths inside of the W.C. “Dub” Brassell Detention Center over the past few years. Cannon says that is one reason he is running.
Cannon said that one case in particular where an inmate died inside of the jail has stuck with him.
Cannon concluded by saying he will have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to civil rights violations if he is elected.
