The Little Rock Zoo will temporarily close next week as dangerously hot temperatures are expected across the area.
Zoo officials announced Wednesday that the facility will be closed from Sunday, July 26, through Saturday, Aug. 1. The zoo is currently scheduled to reopen Sunday, Aug. 2.
The decision was made as a safety precaution for zoo employees, visitors and animals because of the excessive heat expected during the closure period.
Zoo officials will continue monitoring the long-range weather forecast and could make additional changes if conditions warrant.
Visitors planning a trip to the zoo are encouraged to check for updates before traveling.
