Liberty Utilities is set to begin a major water system improvement project along West Sixth Avenue in support of the Arkansas Department of Transportation’s (ARDOT) Statewide Transportation Improvement Program.
Beginning Monday, Oct. 13, crews will install approximately two miles of new water main pipeline stretching from Franklin Street to South Blake Street. The work is expected to continue into early 2026.
“While the relocation of our infrastructure is required as part of ARDOT’s street-widening effort, we are taking the opportunity to improve Liberty’s water system by replacing aged pipelines,” said Tony Penna, Liberty President, Central Region Water. “This upgrade will allow us to continue delivering safe water and reliable service to customers.”
In addition to the new water mains, Liberty will install new fire hydrants to enhance fire protection for homes and neighborhoods in the project area.
Officials said the road will remain open during construction, but drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes when possible. Motorists should remain alert and follow all posted signage and instructions from traffic flaggers to ensure safety around the work zone.
