With Cleveland County Sheriff Jack Rodgers set to retire at the end of his term, several candidates have stepped forward to seek the office. Among them is Keden Shrum, pastor of the Rison Church of Christ.
Shrum, who also serves on the Rison Fire Department, brings prior law enforcement experience, having worked as a sheriff’s deputy in Oklahoma.
With many residents expressing a desire for change in how the Sheriff’s Office operates, Shrum said he was encouraged by community members to enter the race. He recently spoke with Deltaplex News about his decision to run and the reasons behind it.
Citizens in Cleveland County have said they want to see more deputies patrolling the area. Shrum explained how he would work to make that happen.
Shrum also supports placing computers in patrol vehicles.
Cleveland County has seen a rise in thefts recently, and many residents have said they want stronger efforts to address the problem. Shrum outlined how he would work to combat theft in the county.
Shrum also shared his thoughts on starting a reserve deputy program.
Shrum concluded his interview by highlighting one additional area he hopes to focus on if he is to be elected as Sheriff.
