Contempt of court charges have been filed against Jefferson County Justice of the Peace Alfred Carroll in connection to an ongoing divorce case involving his ex-wife, Sharon Carroll.

The motion was formally filed in Jefferson County Circuit Court on Thursday, July 31 by attorney R. Victor Harper of Star City, who is representing Sharon Carroll.

According to court documents, the contempt motion stems from a divorce decree entered on August 8, 2024, which confirmed that the couple jointly owned a home located at 1003 East 11th Avenue in Pine Bluff. As part of the decree, both parties were ordered to obtain an appraisal of the property by a professional of their choosing within 30 days.

Sharon Carroll reportedly complied with the court’s directive and obtained an appraisal valuing the home at $85,000. The motion alleges that Alfred Carroll has failed to fulfill his obligation under the court order and has refused to participate in the appraisal process or cooperate in the sale of the home.

As a result, Sharon Carroll is now asking the court to allow her to select a real estate agent to list the home for $85,000. The motion further requests that Alfred Carroll be required to pay all reasonable attorney’s fees and court costs associated with the case. It also seeks to preserve Sharon Carroll’s right to amend the complaint if necessary.

The filing requests that the court issue a show cause order requiring Alfred Carroll to appear and explain why he should not be held in contempt. It also asks for any additional relief the court deems appropriate.

Court records show that Alfred Carroll is being represented in the matter by attorney Efrem Neely.

The case remains active in Division 3 of the Jefferson County Circuit Court, with Circuit Clerk Flora Cook-Bishop recording the electronic filing at 10:47 a.m. Thursday.

Carroll, an elected member of the Jefferson County Quorum Court, is currently embroiled in multiple legal and political controversies involving county government in addition to this ongoing matter filed today.

No hearing date has yet been scheduled in the contempt case.
