In March 2020, the first cases of COVID-19 were reported across the county and in Arkansas, with the state’s first case at Jefferson Regional Hospital.

Hospital spokeswoman Wendy Talbot was a guest on the Oldies 101.3 morning show Friday and said it has been a tough 22 months for medical personnel, but she said she is seeing signs that things are getting better.

Talbot said there are currently 29 patients who have been diagnosed with COVID hospitalized.

At one point, there was only one patient hospitalized and Talbot said she hopes the numbers can come back down because “the staff needs a break.”
