For the first time in a while, the Jefferson County Quorum Court reached unanimous agreement to approve appropriations to pay debts owed to FBT Bank and fund the Metropolitan Emergency Communications Association (MECA).
Following the meeting, Justice Reginald Johnson told Deltaplex News that the justices are willing to work with County Judge Gerald Robinson as long as they are kept informed.
One item was tabled at the meeting after Justice Alfred Carroll raised concerns about Item 1 on the agenda, which involved funding the Jefferson County Solid Waste program.
Following debate between Carroll and County Judge Gerald Robinson, the quorum court voted to table the measure until its next meeting. Justices Reginald Adams, Melanie Dumas, Benda Gaddy, Reginald Jackson, Reginald Johnson, and Rick Victorino joined Carroll in supporting the motion.
Carroll later shared his thoughts on his motion to table.
Ultimately, the quorum court voted unanimously to approve a $658,509.47 payment to FBT Bank, along with a unanimous vote to transfer $12,737.00 to MECA.
County Judge Gerald Robinson shared his thoughts on the meeting after it adjourned.
The $658,509.47 payment to FBT Bank will fully pay off the loan, leaving Jefferson County free and clear of that debt.
