The Jefferson County Quorum Court will meet in special session at 5:30 p.m. Friday to select an interim county judge, setting up a formal appointment process following the upcoming retirement of Judge Gerald Robinson.
Robinson’s retirement becomes effective June 30 after serving as county judge since 2019. The person appointed by the Quorum Court will serve through the remainder of the term, which ends Dec. 31.
Nine residents have submitted letters of interest for the position, according to information obtained by Deltaplex Radio’s own Floyd Donald.
The applicants include Karen Blevins, Glen Brown Sr., Booker Clemons, Jeff Edwards, Rosetta Giddens, Pamela Jenkins, Eric Walden, Ivan Whitfield and Ron Williams.
The field reflects a mix of county government experience, elected office backgrounds, public safety leadership and private-sector management.
Several applicants have previously worked in county administration or held roles involving budgeting, personnel oversight and operational management, while others come from law enforcement, business and public service careers.
The appointment will be made by the Quorum Court under state law, which assigns the body responsibility for filling vacancies in the office of county judge until the end of the current term.
The selected candidate will take office at midnight June 30 and complete the term through Dec. 31.
