America is hitting a major milestone this year as the young country turns 250!

To celebrate the occasion, Sheridan will hold its first Independence Day Parade on Saturday, July 4, at 10 a.m.

Leading up to America’s 250th birthday, a series of events will take place throughout Grant County, beginning with Movies at the Park at the Sheridan Recreation Center on July 2, followed by Poyen’s annual fireworks celebration on July 3. Deltaplex Radio’s own Haleigh Reichen interviewed Sheridan Mayor Cain Nattin to learn more about the parade and the surrounding events.

Mayor Nattin also discussed Timberfest, which takes place in November following the parade. Timberfest is an annual festival celebrating local culture. He described the event as free and open to the public and said local businesses from across Grant County come together to provide attendees with activities and games such as three-legged races, face painting and bean bag races. According to Nattin, there will also be food trucks, free hot dogs and free prizes.

The Sheridan City Council, which is organizing the parade and the events described here, is still seeking participants. Organizers are looking for entries of all kinds, large and small. There are four categories for entry: floats, golf carts, bicycles and horses. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place cash prizes will be awarded in all four categories.

Registration is available through the Grant County Chamber of Commerce. Participants may sign up online at GrantCountyChamber.com or in person at the Grant County Chamber of Commerce, 125 S. Oak St., or Sheridan City Hall, 106 W. Bell St.

Completed forms may be emailed to [email protected] or dropped off at either location. The deadline to register is July 2, and this year’s theme is Red, White and Blue!
