Arkansas ranked as the state with the worst road rage in the nation in a recent report from ConsumerAffairs, with aggressive and careless driving linked to a larger share of fatal crashes and traffic deaths than in any other state.
The report found aggressive or careless driving was involved in 47% of fatal crashes and 48% of traffic fatalities statewide, both the highest rates in the country. Arkansas also led the nation in fatal crashes involving aggressive or careless driving, recording 8.35 such crashes per 100,000 residents. Fatalities tied to those behaviors reached 9.33 per 100,000 residents, also the highest rate among states.
The study moved Arkansas into the top spot after the state ranked fifth in 2024 and fourth in 2025. It also found traffic incidents involving gun violence increased more in Arkansas than in any other state during the past year.
The findings come as law enforcement agencies continue responding to roadway disputes and aggressive driving incidents across Arkansas. Road rage incidents can involve behaviors such as speeding, tailgating, unsafe lane changes, hostile gestures, and confrontations between motorists.
Data from the Arkansas State Police reflects the scope of the issue. The agency reported approximately 1,200 road rage-related incidents in 2024 and through June of the previous year, including more than 450 incidents involving weapons.
State police said they continue to investigate and prosecute incidents involving aggressive driving and encourage motorists to avoid engaging with hostile drivers, maintain distance from vehicles displaying aggressive behavior, avoid roadside confrontations, and contact law enforcement if they believe they are being followed or harassed.
