The Jefferson County Quorum Court met Wednesday night for a special called meeting, with a majority of justices present, to address payments owed to vendors who have gone months without compensation.
County Judge Gerald Robinson was unable to secure enough votes to suspend the rules and move forward with a vote on the ordinance that would authorize those payments. As a result, another meeting will be required to conduct a third reading and hold a final vote.
As discussion unfolded, the familiar exchange between Robinson and Justice Alfred Carroll resurfaced. Robinson asked Carroll on the record whether he wanted to pay the vendors, to which Carroll responded that he did not.
Much has been said about the attorney fees owed to the Justices, but those fees are currently being litigated. A court hearing scheduled for January 2026 will determine who is responsible for paying them.
Robinson concluded his interview by saying he was “floored” when Carroll stated on the record that he simply does not want to pay the vendors who are owed money.
