The Jefferson County Quorum Court met Tuesday night for its monthly committee session, setting the stage for next week’s full quorum court meeting. Attendance was mostly full, with the exceptions of Justices Rick Victorino, Margarette Williams, and Alfred Carroll, who were all absent.
The meeting moved efficiently through its agenda until discussion turned to the proposed 2026 county budget. Several justices stated they had not received copies of the draft budget ahead of the meeting—an issue that prompted Justice Reginald Johnson to request that the item be tabled.
Johnson shared why he asked for it to be tabled.
Johnson also stated a special called meeting needs to be called in order to discuss the budget.
County Judge Gerald Robinson agreed with Johnson’s request, telling the court he was open to holding an open budget discussion once all justices had the materials in hand. Robinson emphasized the importance of transparency and ensuring every member has the information needed to make informed decisions.
The quorum court will revisit the 2026 budget when a special called meeting can take place.
