The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is joining forces with state and local partners to combat prescription drug abuse as part of the Arkansas Take Back Initiative on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The initiative — supported by the Tri-County Drug Task Force, Joint Task Force Arkansas Counterdrug, Arkansas Sheriff’s Association, Arkansas State Police, Arkansas Office of the Drug Director, and the Arkansas Opioid Recovery Partnership (ARORP) — aims to reduce overdose deaths and curb opioid misuse by encouraging safe disposal of unused and expired medications.

ARORP, a joint effort between the Arkansas Municipal League and the Association of Arkansas Counties, oversees the distribution of opioid settlement funds to local governments and promotes prevention, treatment, enforcement, and recovery initiatives. Its mission is clear: “Be bold, stand together, and commit to ending opioid misuse and addiction in Arkansas.”

Jefferson County Sheriff Lafayette Woods, Jr. spoke with Deltaplex News about the event.

Residents can drop off unwanted medications for safe disposal at Super 1 Foods located at 2800 S. Hazel Street in Pine Bluff.

Only pills and patches will be accepted — no liquids, needles, or sharps. The service is free and anonymous, with no questions asked.

For year-round disposal, Jefferson County residents can use one of the county’s permanent prescription drug collection boxes located at the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Doctor’s Orders Pharmacy, the Pine Bluff Police Department, and the White Hall Police Department

Woods spoke about the year-round drop box locations.

During the previous Arkansas Prescription Drug Take Back event held on April 26, 2025, law enforcement agencies across the state collected 28,794 pounds of prescription drugs. Since 2010, Take Back events nationwide have removed more than 657,946 pounds — or over 328 tons — of medications from circulation.

Collection sites across Arkansas can be found by visiting ardrugtakeback.org.
