A $100,000 bond was set Monday for a Jefferson County man currently on parole on drug related charges.
Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Deangelo Smith, 39, with possession of methamphetamine with purpose to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia. Prosecutors said Smith had 1.3 pounds of methamphetamine in his possession.
Reading from an affidavit from Tri-County Drug Task Force Investigator Marsha Oliver, Prosecuting Attorney S. Kyle Hunter said a sheriff’s deputy was stationary on U.S. 425 near Love’s Truck Stop when he saw a Nissan that did not have a license plate light and conduced a traffic stop.
The driver was identified as Smith and the deputy learned that the license plate number was suspended and Smith had a search waiver on file.
A set of scales was also found, as were various pills that will be sent to the crime lab for analysis.
Hunter said Smith has four or more felony convictions. He was told to come back to court April 15.
