A $10,000 bond was set Friday for a Jefferson County man accused of hitting an elderly man in the head with a shovel and breaking windows on a house during an altercation.
Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Billy James, 22, with second-degree battery and criminal mischief.
Deputy Prosecutor Jim Williams said on Thursday morning, sheriff’s deputies were sent to a residence on Kyle Lane in response to a reported disturbance. While enroute, deputies were told that the suspect had hit an elderly man in the head with a shovel.
James had left before deputies arrived, but he returned and deputies went back and took him into custody without incident.
James was ordered to have no contact with the victim and told to come back to court May 22.
