The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division has arrested a man accused of impersonating a law enforcement officer and unlawfully taking property from a citizen.
The investigation began on Thursday, August 7, 2025, after reports that a Black male approached a citizen who was walking, identified himself as an employee of the Sheriff’s Office, and took a firearm from the individual. The suspect allegedly claimed the magazine in the weapon was illegal to possess.
On Monday, August 11, 2025, investigators arrested 51-year-old Torrence Rogers on probable cause for Criminal Impersonation in the First Degree and other charges. A search of Rogers’ residence led to the seizure of numerous items believed to be connected to the investigation. Authorities say the evidence suggests Rogers may have committed similar offenses on other occasions.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in identifying any additional victims. Anyone who has been approached by Rogers and surrendered property under the belief that he was a law enforcement officer is urged to contact Investigator Kirsten Pennington at (870) 541-5351, the non-emergency dispatch at (870) 541-5300, or by email at [email protected].
