Jefferson County Judge Gerald Robinson has issued vetoes on two ordinances recently passed by eight members of the Jefferson County Quorum Court during a special called meeting on October 30., citing questions about their validity.
In a letter dated November 5, 2025, addressed to County Clerk Shawndra Taggart, Robinson stated that he was vetoing Ordinance 2025-55 and Ordinance 2025-56.
“Out of an abundance of caution, I question the validity of the ordinances,” Robinson wrote.
Ordinance 2025-55 was an appropriation measure authorizing $2,475.78 to be allocated within Fund 3025 – Prosecuting Attorney-Victim Witness, specifically for special projects. The ordinance authorized the county judge to approve and distribute the appropriation as outlined in the measure.
Ordinance 2025-56 authorized multiple transfers within Fund 1000, County General, specifically for the Coroner’s Office. It approved the transfer of $5,954.87 from Special Projects to several line items including Tires and Tubes, Parts and Repairs, $6,000 from Maintenance and Service Contracts to General Supplies, $2,000 from Fuel, Oil and Lubricants to Janitorial Supplies, and $4,000 from Clothing and Uniforms to Part-Time Deputy Coroner Salaries.
