A newly released state inspection report has found that the W.C. “Dub” Brassell Adult Detention Center continues to operate in compliance with Arkansas Jail Standards, countering claims circulated on social media alleging deficiencies at the facility.

The annual inspection was conducted Dec. 5, 2025, and the report was released Feb. 10, 2026. According to the findings, the detention center met compliance requirements in all major categories, including administration, personnel, security, medical and mental health services, food service, detainee rights, safety, record keeping and overall facility operations.

The report states the jail is rated for 300 beds, with an operational capacity of approximately 240. The average daily population in 2025 was reported at 240, and 227 inmates were housed at the facility on the day of inspection. Inspectors noted that the population was lower than in 2024 and that the county recently launched efforts to reduce inmate numbers, including transferring inmates to other facilities when necessary.

In its narrative summary, the Criminal Detention Facilities Review Committee commended county staff for progress in managing inmate populations and updating operations. The county also invested approximately $150,000 over the past year in site improvements, upgrades and maintenance, according to the report.

Inspectors observed that the facility’s kitchen was clean and properly maintained and that required safety equipment, including automated external defibrillators, emergency gear, detainee rights postings and procedural documentation, was in place.

The inspection checklist indicates the facility was marked “In Compliance” in areas including written policies, personnel files, jail standards training, records systems, detainee classification, security procedures, medical care, food service, visitation policies, safety plans and infrastructure. The committee also cited improvements in staffing strategies and recruitment.

Sheriff James Woods said the findings reflect the work of detention staff and address concerns raised online.

“The independent findings of the State’s Criminal Detention Facilities Review Committee speak for themselves,” Woods said. “The report affirms the work of detention staff and rebuts misinformation pushed by serial social-media agitators seeking to monetize outrage. We welcome oversight, invite inspections and stand on the facts.”

Woods said compliance requires continuous effort.

“Operating a full-service detention facility is one of the most demanding responsibilities in county government,” he said. “Our team works around the clock to ensure constitutional care, safety and professional standards. We will continue to invest in improvements and staffing to maintain that standard.”

Woods also recognized members of the jail’s leadership team and staff for their work maintaining compliance, including Chief Deputy Bo Hudson, Major Jeremy Bennett, Capt. Zekeyia Jackson, Lt. Keaira Hawkins, Lt. Joyce Marshall, Lt. Lawrence Goodloe, Lt. Ronald Scott, Sgt. Veronica Alexander, Sgt. Mauricia Bennett, Chief Robert Lee, Managing Nurse Erika Green and kitchen and support staff.
