A recount of votes in the Jefferson County District 3 race between incumbent Reginald Johnson and challenger Joseph J. O’Neal III resulted in no changes following Tuesday’s review.
Johnson remains the winner, defeating O’Neal by a margin of 260-256.
Jefferson County Election Commission Chairman Mike Adam spoke with Deltaplex News about the procedures used to conduct the recount.
Adam added that the commission conducted a manual recount of all ballots and explained the reasoning behind that decision.
Adam told Deltaplex News that the primary ballots have not yet been certified as the commission awaits Judge Randall Wright’s ruling in the case involving Sheriff Lafayette Woods Jr. That ruling is expected Friday, with vote certification anticipated later that evening.
