Gloria Tillman, the longtime Jefferson County Assessor, is seeking reelection, aiming to extend her decades of public service and experience in county government.
A lifelong resident of Pine Bluff, Tillman is a graduate of Dollarway High School’s Class of 1981 and earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in 1986. She has worked in the assessor’s office for 27 years and says that experience gives her a strong foundation to continue leading the department effectively.
“I’ve dedicated nearly three decades to serving the people of Jefferson County,” Tillman said in a news release. “If given the opportunity to continue, I will remain committed to making the assessor’s office efficient, accessible, and responsive to the needs of our community.”
Tillman began her public service career as a junior deputy assessor in the Personal Property Department. As her career progressed, she took on responsibilities in commercial accounts and real estate before being promoted to senior deputy assessor. In that role, she oversaw lease commercial accounts and worked closely with the Real Estate Department. She later became chief deputy assessor, managing the office’s administrative functions and collaborating with city and county leaders, as well as school officials.
The assessor’s office is tasked with appraising and maintaining records for personal property, real estate, and commercial property in Jefferson County. The office also assists residents with registering property and applying for homestead tax credits, all while ensuring compliance with state laws.
Outside of her official duties, Tillman is active in numerous civic and professional organizations. She is a member of the Arkansas Assessors Association, Association of Arkansas Counties, International Association of Assessing Officers, and the Jefferson County Association of Realtors.
She also participates in community-focused groups including the Jefferson County Democratic Women, the Pine Bluff Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and the NAACP, where she is a life member. She is a graduate of the Leadership Pine Bluff program and an active member of New Town Missionary Baptist Church.
