Jefferson and Lincoln County Prosecuting Attorney S. Kyle Hunter Announces He Will Not Seek Re-Election

S. Kyle Hunter, the longtime Prosecuting Attorney for Judicial District 11-West, announced on June 24, 2025, that he will not seek re-election at the end of his current term, concluding a notable 16-year tenure in the role.

Hunter has served as Prosecuting Attorney for Jefferson and Lincoln Counties since first taking office in January 2011. At the end of his fourth four-year term, which concludes on December 31, 2026, he will have completed 27 years of total service in the prosecutor’s office.

His legal career with the office began in 1999 as a Deputy Prosecutor. He was later promoted to Chief Deputy in 2001, a position he held until his election as Prosecuting Attorney in 2010.

“It has been the honor of my career to serve the people of Jefferson and Lincoln Counties,” said Hunter in the official release. “While I will not be seeking another term, I remain committed to fulfilling my duties through the end of 2026.”

The election to determine Hunter’s successor will take place on March 3, 2026.
