Community leader and Chief Operating Officer at Paradise Funeral Home of Little Rock Jamal Gordon has announced his candidacy for Jefferson County Coroner, pledging to bring compassion, professionalism, and community connection to the office if elected.
In a statement released Wednesday, Gordon said his decision stems from a deep commitment to serve Jefferson County families with “compassion, integrity, and respect for every life that touches our county.”
“For me, this is more than a position — it’s a purpose,” Gordon said. “Even in moments of loss, our community deserves dignity, professionalism, and care that reflect the heart of Jefferson County.”
Gordon, who has served the community in various roles in ministry, business, and outreach, said his campaign will focus on three key principles:
-
Compassion in Service: treating every case and family with respect;
-
Commitment to Excellence: maintaining professionalism and care within the office; and
-
Connection to Community: ensuring the Coroner’s Office is visible, accessible, and engaged.
He emphasized that his goal is to make the office “not distant, but accessible, transparent, and here for the people it serves.”
“This campaign is about Coroner and Community,” Gordon said. “Together, we can redefine how we serve Jefferson County — with compassion that honors life and uplifts families.”
Gordon will appear on the Democrat primary ballot. The position is currently held by Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelley.
