Officials are confirming an inmate at the W.C. “Dub” Brassell Adult Detention Center suffered a medical emergency and is receiving treatment.
According to information released by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, detention center staff responded to a detainee experiencing a medical emergency while in custody on Wednesday afternoon.
Personnel provided immediate assistance, including lifesaving first aid, and activated emergency medical services without delay. The detainee was then transported to Jefferson Regional Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment.
Preliminary information indicates the incident may be related to a cardiac event or possible overdose, though officials emphasized that no definitive cause has been determined. Medical staff at Jefferson Regional Medical Center are conducting diagnostic testing to assess the detainee’s condition and identify the underlying cause.
