A suspect is in custody following a high-speed pursuit that unfolded across Grant County on Wednesday morning, involving multiple law enforcement agencies and resulting in significant vehicle damage.

According to a press release from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began in the Ico community near Grant County Road 56 when 31-year-old Carlos Smith of Lamar fled from Arkansas State Trooper Todd Williams during what was described as a routine traffic stop. Smith reportedly accelerated, initiating a chase that reached speeds exceeding 90 miles per hour.

The pursuit continued into Sheridan city limits, where officers from the Sheridan Police Department and deputies from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office joined in the chase. Authorities deployed spike strips to disable Smith’s vehicle, and a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver was successfully executed, bringing the pursuit to an end on Oklahoma Street in Sheridan.
