At a recent meeting, the Grant County Quorum Court approved a $3,000 appropriation to purchase cell phones for quorum court members.

According to the Sheridan Headlight newspaper, the county owned cell phones will be used for county business.

Justice of the Peace Mike Nivens was quoted as saying that quorum court members were recently served with Freedom of Information Act requests requiring them to provide copies of their phone records.

He said many of the members use their personnel cell phones for both work and personal calls and it became difficult to separate county related calls from personal ones.

He went on to say that having a phone dedicated solely to count business will create more transparency and easier to manage.
