Pine Bluff native Evelyn Moorehead has announced her candidacy for prosecuting attorney of the 11th West Judicial Circuit, which serves Jefferson and Lincoln counties.
In an open letter to the community, Moorehead called herself a “Watchman on Assignment,” pledging to fight for justice and accountability across both counties.
“As a proud native of Jefferson County, I cherish the beauty and richness of the Arkansas Delta — from its fertile farmland to the deep-rooted friendships and strong family values that define our home,” Moorehead said. She also highlighted the region’s legacy of producing influential leaders, including John Miller Howard, Willie K. Hocker, Wiley Branton, W. Harold Flowers, Carl Redus, Wyatt C. Thomas, and Smokie Norful.
Moorehead compared Pine Bluff to “a butterfly” ready to emerge from its cocoon, expressing her belief that the city can return to a place of strength and prosperity.
“My desire is to scale back the tarnish corroding this jewel in the Delta through the office of prosecuting attorney,” she said. “When crime is punished, the conscience of the people is redeemed, the tarnish is removed, and the violence silenced.”
She urged citizens to join her in building a coalition dedicated to safety, opportunity, and change. “Together we can create a community that offers hope for our youth, peace for our elderly, and prosperity for all,” Moorehead said.
