A detainee who escaped earlier this week from the W.C. “Dub” Brassell Detention Center has been taken back into custody, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said Darius Shepard fled from the sally port/intake area of the detention center on Feb. 24, 2026. Since the escape, deputies and investigators had been actively searching for him.
On Feb. 27, 2026, Shepard was located in Jefferson County and taken into custody without further incident.
During the arrest, deputies also took Robert Jones into custody. Jones has been charged with hindering apprehension or prosecution for allegedly assisting Shepard while he was evading law enforcement.
