Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas Overcome Winter Storm and Highlight Lineman Career Opportunities

Winter weather took its toll on the Deltaplex over the weekend, prompting residents to keep a close watch on local utilities, particularly electric providers.

Only limited power outages were reported across Southeast Arkansas, and Rob Roedel of the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas spoke with Deltaplex News about how local power companies fared during the storm.

He also spoke about preventative maintenance the cooperatives have done to help keep power outages to a minimum.

Roedel said there is an ongoing need for more linemen and discussed the pathways available for those interested in pursuing a career in the field.

While Entergy is the primary electric provider in much of Arkansas, the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas serve the majority of the state’s rural areas. Roedel explained the differences between cooperative utilities and Entergy.
