A $25,000 cash only bond was set Friday for the owner of two dogs who attacked a man riding his bicycle down the street, resulting in the death of the man.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge John Mayo, 41, with manslaughter. Mayo’s wife appeared in court earlier in the week on the same allegation.

Chief Deputy Prosecutor Jill Reed said the incident happened Feb. 26 after police were sent to 2106 S. Oak for what was initially reported as a shooting victim.

Detective Shaun Watson reported that officers located video cameras that had recorded the incident.

Mayo was told to come back to court April 20.
